Garlic Press

I am like these girls on tik tok that show off their online shopping ‘haul’ from Zara, the only difference being mine are kitchen utensils instead of fast fashion, and I don’t usually return any of them. I have multiple garlic crushers, because I hate chopping garlic, and I also cook with a lot of garlic. The manual ones are a pain to clean. This one makes garlic mincing a doddle.  Available at most supermarkets and Amazon.

Herb Scissors

The only time I use scissors to snip things is to remove the string off a trussed beef fillet. Or dead twigs off the plants on my balcony because of my sadly lacking horticultural skills. However, I do have the ability to utilise every utensil in my kitchen when cooking, so why not add one more.  Bought these herb scissors off Amazon for AED 40. Yes, I can use a knife, but why use one blade when you can do it with 5 stainless steel blades.

Meat thermometer

A must have in my kitchen. Hubby and I silently judge each other when any meat is even slightly over cooked. You can usually cut the tension with a blunt steak knife when either of us messes up. Which does happen on occasion. I have decided to raise the proverbial ‘steaks’, chucked my old thermometer out which had a probe so thick it always left a gaping hole in my roasts with all the precious juices spilling out. I have now, in one of my late-night online shopping sprees, bought this DOQAUS meat thermometer with an ultra-thin probe that reads temps in seconds. Let the cook-off begin.  AED 33 on Amazon.

Kilner® Jars

I bought these Kilner® Jars from Tavola (AED 29 each) which I used to culture my cream in and make my own butter (see my ‘Foodie Memoirs’ section to read about said butter making attempt). They are sturdy and well made, functional and really nice looking too. Great for displaying on a breakfast table. Also good for pickling, which I will also now attempt, watch this space!
