The Guild
The Guild is quite possibly the prettiest restaurant in Dubai. It’s like walking into a magical fairy forest, with seating nestled in the sparkly lit foliage. 10 points for ambience.
That’s just the first part of the restaurant. It is an enormous space and comprises different areas: Nurseries (aka the fairy forest), Rockpool – a quirky raw bar with some very large live crabs and other impressive seafood on display, and the brasserie style Salon.
Right in the centre of the twinkling forest is a whimsical bar, with friendly and very sharply dressed mixologists crafting beautiful cocktails. A perfect way to start the evening with an aperitif and a very tasty little bowl of taramosalata and moreish, appetite ruin-able grissini.
Then moving on to the main dining area, The Salon, has tables adorned with white table cloths in front of an open kitchen, grill fires ablaze. A lot of kitchen staff on the stations, grilling impressive looking bone marrow, prawns, moules marinières and prime steaks over multiple wood fires. It’s a varied menu from flatbreads and oysters, to tartare and carpaccio from the Rockpool, as well as caviar, grilled fish and lobster, pastas and risotto, fresh salads and of course Dubai’s most beloved staple food – Burrata.
It is quite fun watching all the chefs in action, which adds to the bustle and atmosphere. A sole singer on the opposite side of the dining room providing smooth entertainment for the evening. He is superb, I love live dinner entertainment as much as Iove the giant bread basket you are presented with upon being seated at your table. I called the very obliging lady over twice to dig into a tremendous array of focaccias, sourdough, olive breads and more.
We had the wagyu beef carpaccio, tuna tataki, mushroom ravioli with parmesan cream and braised beef cheeks (refused to share with hubby, it was delish), the Chilean sea bass with spicy chorizo dressing, ember roasted asparagus with an almond gazpacho and duck fat fries. For dessert we had chocolate mousse and a slice of apple tart.
I love it when waiters pre-warn you about a dish, it gives you a little insight into what diners have made comments about, and clearly the chocolate mousse portion is a bone of contention with some.
Following my carb overload at the start of evening, the chocolate mousse portion was perfect in my view, with a good whack of sea salt to offset the sweet, rich, dark mousse, it was fantastic. On the other hand, hubby’s apple tart slice was enormous.
Highly recommended. I also hear they serve a good Sunday Roast, so I shall be visiting again soon.
